Woodbury Women of Today Meeting Notes 10/9/07
Members Present: Tina Altman (President) & Kim Hunn (Vice President), and Janet Marzolf Prospective Members Present: Natasha, Alicia, Flo & Nicole
Welcome The sign – in sheet was passed around. The 10/9 meeting agenda with the September meeting minutes was handed out. Tina led a name tag activity. Each person in attendance was asked to write down and share a favorite scary movie, costume, candy and place to trick or treat. (anywhere in the world)
New prospective members were given an overview of the history of Women of Today. Tina Altman and Kim Hunn decided to restart the Woodbury Chapter in May. We currently have 8 members and prospective members are present at monthly meetings.
Good News and Celebrations
Member Janet Marzolf shared that her daughter was awarded a scholarship to St. Scholastica College. Prospective Member Tanya Holt was unable to attend the meeting because she is launching the Primrose School of Woodbury, an educational child care center. Woodbury Women of Today members and prospective members are invited to the grand opening celebration on Saturday, Oct. 20th from 10:00-2:00 p.m. The school is located at 10350 City Walk Drive in Woodbury.
Kim Hunn gave birth to her first son (Matthew) on Sept. 2nd.
Announcements and Updates
New Website- Those in attendance were asked to share what they would like to see added to the site. Suggestions included printable membership forms & flyers. Tina’s official e-mail address is: president@woodburywt.org.
Advertising – Kim Hunn gave an update on the advertising campaign. The organization is currently being advertised on many community bulletin boards around town. The locations include: Caribou Coffee, Starbucks, Anytime Fitness, Dunn Brothers Coffee, Cub Foods, Rainbow, Panera, Central Park/R.H. Stafford Library. Ads have also been placed in the Woodbury Bulletin, Woodbury Magazine and on the City of Woodbury Website. Advertising suggestions- Several people in the group mentioned the following as possible places and ways to advertise: Woodbury Community TV Channel, Rest Stop Bulletin Board near 94 & the Powers Lake Bulletin Board.
Nicole mentioned that she would like to see a group photo of the Woodbury Women of Today used in future advertisements.
Completed Events – Tina attended the President’s Retreat at Camp Friendship on Sept.29th. There were 20-30 presidents from other chapters at the retreat. Tina was given a copy of the President’s manual. Discussion topics ranged from recruitment to ideas for social activities.
Woodbury Days- Women of Today member (Tina) and prospective members volunteered and did shifts at the Bingo tent. Next year, the group hopes to have greater volunteer involvement and outreach efforts to recruit new members.
Brainstorming/Project Ideas
Current Fundraisers- Happenings Books and Herbergers Community Day Coupons. ACTION: Contact Tina if you need books/coupons to sell or if you would like to sign up for a shift to sell the coupons at the Herbergers in Stillwater.
Happenings Books are $30.00 and will be sold until Dec. 15th. If the group sells 50, we get 50% of the profit. If the group sells less than 50, we get 20-30% of the profit. There will be a prize for the person that sells the most. Tina is keeping a log of numbers. Janet and Kim took Happenings books. Kim also took Coupons.
Project Ideas – Volunteer at Woodbury Estates (place where we meet) Kim will follow up with her contact at Woodbury Estates and have suggestions of things they would like help with by the next meeting.
Ideas for Socials- Those in attendance were split in to two groups and came up with ideas for social activities. The ideas are as follows: Pampered Chef Party, Chocolate Party, Coffee Shop Social, Maplewood Mall, Dinner, Make up Party, Ice Skating, Going Green Seminar, Wine and Cheese Party, Brunch, Game Night, Potluck, Cookie Dough Exchange, Root Beer Floats w/family, Family Pizza Night, Happy Hour & Spontaneous Socials. Best Day/Time for Socials – The consensus was Tuesday nights at 7-8:30 p.m.
ACTION: Tina to e-mail all members and prospects to take an informal survey of what days and times work best. Ideally, socials could be done every 3 months.
Treasurer’s Report This position is currently vacant, but Tina is the acting treasurer for now. An account for Woodbury Women of Today was opened at Wells Fargo on 8/21/07. The opening balance was $272.33. A portion of that balance ($70.00) was sent to the District Service Center for 2 new membership dues that were collected and ($5.00) was paid for the bank bag. The balance on 10/8/07 was $197.33. Reimbursements yet to be paid to Tina include: P. O. Box ($70.00), Stamps ($40.00), President’s Retreat ($60.00 + gas), Applebee’s Gift Certificates ($20.00), Printer Ink ($20.00)...

1. Welcome & Word Search – Tina Altman, Chapter President

3. Membership Presentation – Kelly P., Lakeville Chapter Kelly gave a very detailed overview of what the Women of Today Membership entails. Her presentation lasted approximately 40 minutes. A suggestion that stood out was doing one community service project and one social every three months. E-mailing members and prospects that miss meetings the notes was cited as a way to keep them informed.
4. Announcements & Project Ideas The Woodbury Days event (Aug. 24-26) was mentioned. Volunteer category sheets were passed around the table. Prospective members were asked to think about which areas they’d like to be involved in and contact Tina for more information and to volunteer together. Other Project ideas that were mentioned included: Woodbury Estates (Bingo or bring kids in), 35W Bridge Collapse Relief, St. Paul New Area Residents and Cornerstone Women’s Shelter.
5. Membership Recruitment Tina and Kim talked about our efforts to grow the chapter and asked the prospective members in attendance to share their ideas. They are as follows:
